Security Engineer
IT security is more than running different EDRs and patching the OS. It is having a depth of understanding what threat actors are doing and where the gaps are. IT security is more than a process reading Windows event logs and sending an email. Most hacker activity process well outside event logs. A lot of events never hit a log. A lot are processes in the machine and OS. It is activity written to the api.api.dll, it is child processes not matching the root process, and much more.
Threat Defense and Hunting
Some may reverse the order and put hunting first. Here I list defense first because the first order is know thy environment. We must start there. We must know what will a hacker want from us? What will they attack? Next we must take vulnerability management hyper serious. And VM is not just patching the OS. It is updating apps and. building good configurations. Too often orgs rely on security apps and IR services to notify the client. But no vendor fully does that. There are always gaps in what they do for you.
